Hybrid work and the potential of your workplace

Increasing the potential of your workspace? The key to everyone's well-being.

At PetersPetersson, we believe that an office should evolve into a place where people enjoy spending time, generating a sense of community and involvement. Office spaces should have a “better than home” feeling.

“Hybrid work is here to stay, and office attendance is down by 30 percent” according to the @McKinsey & Company Global Institute’s (MGI) report "Empty spaces and hybrid places”.

The report states that «The ripple effects of hybrid work are substantial», which can be seen in office attendance decreasing dramatically. As well, demand for office space has consistently decreased since the pandemic, and may fall further still. With their employees coming to the office less often, many employers have downsized spaces to reduce costs.

This is reflected in the conclusions of the MGI report on the Luxembourg office real estate industry’s report by @Cushman & Wakefield, where demand in Q3-2023 has dropped by 48% compared to the same period in 2022.

The MGI report also points out that employees' preference for commuting to work or working from home depends on the individual and the task at hand. It shows that understanding and responding to these preferences will have an impact on office dynamics in the future as we navigate this evolving landscape.

Then, what is the potential of your workplace?

Companies will need to innovate and adapt to this “new normal”. To address these shifts, employers are now faced with the challenge to transform the office into something more than just a workspace - into a space that is « better than home ».

Recognising the importance of appealing and inviting office space to encourage employees to return to work, in combination with the ongoing drop in demand for office space, budgets are now directed towards smaller but high quality and engaging office environments.

Employers can boost office attendance by investing in adaptive, hospitality-oriented and healthy workspaces, where employees genuinely enjoy living, working and growing in. This includes an adaptive office design through branding, generating a sense of community and involvement. As well the design includes all technical aspects such as air, lights, acoustics and safety. Over time, this enjoyment has a direct correlation on physical and mental health; a more enjoyable experience increases happiness, health, and overall well-being.

Our team of designers and architects are on a quest to reimagine future workspaces. Our goal is to develop office spaces that are personalised to your needs as a company, as a brand, and to the people you are. The result of this partnership is a thorough evaluation of your company's culture, staff and employee preferences, and the specific requirements of your work.

How have the rapid changes of the last year affected your workplace and how do you think it could be improved?
